I was fortunate enough to be resident artist at Giving Tree Gallery in 2008. They gave me free reign around the sculpture gardens to create as I please, and that I did. The following images tell that story…- opening day I hung my “Wind Jellies” a rendition of windsock yet constructed out of packing materials and ribbon hung on found bamboo stakes. There are six in all
- In mid summer after a strong storm a very old tree had fallen on the grounds. Before thier maintenance man could come do a clean up I began scurrying around constructing whatever I could get my hands on.
- This image was taken at night. I love how beastly it looks. It has always reminded my of some sort of horse creature laying down.
- This image also taken at night. This piece was actually my scrap pile I was going to use later to create a figurative piece, but after stepping back, I enjoyed what it had become too much to destroy it.
- The following images are of my “Woman in Branches” in an array of times of year and lighting.
- A special box I created for people to write their thoughts. Equipped with paper and special pen below, this box opened a doorway of what usualy remains silent in the gardens. Suddenly there were thoughts to be shared and read
- This is the pen people had to write with. It really writes and what was amazing is the outcome of this utensil caused everyone’s handwriting to look the same. The weight and shape of the pen created a unified series of writings. Summer of 2009 I plan to create a series of peace flags from all the writing I collected. There are at least 100 to sort through. The box was only up for one month.
- This ephemeral piece was constructed with found bamboo. When visited one could see a sort of pathway in the marsh mimiking the natural one that already existed and to the left of this path a spiritual circle.
- The following are a series of wall compostions constructed from natural materials and wire hung on trees.
- These next images are repeated pieces but different time of year and lighting.
- This is a room I built around a small pool of water that collects out in the woods.
- This is my “nature of the beast” piece made with found materials. It actually is coming out of the room I built.
- The following images are of a room I constructed out of bamboo. These images are of different angles and lighting of the whole room and parts of it.
- This is the perverted bamboo piece, created by mistake. I stuck it in the tree just to save the bamboo but what had happened was humorous and intriguing. Many people thought but did not say.
- Hard to see but a mobile constructed of found natural materials and wire.
- The following is an ongoing ceramic piece that began in 2006. It consists of nine separate pieces. It is an earthly offering to the natural world that used to be whole and out in the woods in ceremonial positon. Now as it decays and slowly returns back to the Earth it resembles an archeological site.
- I have been documenting this piece over the years and will post in the near future images of this documentary of change.
